The Ahlat Tree project plans educational support for schoolchildren in Bitlis. With TİHCAD, recycled textile panels, bags, and puppets will accompany sustainable design workshops.

Academics and students from İstanbul Nişantaşı University’s Faculty of Art and Design, Textile and Fashion Design Department, will organise a social responsibility project in Bitlis to support education.

In cooperation with TİHCAD (Textile Exporters and Employees Association), the university joined forces with Balı Primary School and Kindergarten in Hizan, Bitlis, for “The Wild Pear Tree: Social Responsibility and Educational Support Project.” Within its sustainability approach, work began on producing the region’s symbolic wild pear tree using waste and unused textile materials.

Coordinated by departmental faculty members, students began creating two wild pear tree wall panels and backpacks for schoolchildren. Faculty members are also preparing fabric hand puppets for preschool children.

Planned for 26–28 April 2024, the project envisages visits by Assistant Professors Nursen Geyik Değerli and Bahar Yıldız to the Bitlis Governorship and Bitlis Eren University Rector’s Office, followed by “Colour and Pattern in Sustainable Textiles” training and “Wild Pear Tree Workshops” at Balı Primary School.
