Empowering Women in Small Businesses Project Led by Istanbul Nişantaşı University

The “Empowering Women in Small Businesses” project was carried out under the leadership of the university’s Women and Family Studies Application and Research Centre, coordinated by Prof. Dr. Göknur Akçadağ, to support women’s participation in economic life and the workforce.

Implemented in partnership with the Istanbul Business and Professional Women’s Association (BPW Istanbul), TÜRKONFED, SEDEFED, KAGİDER, CEİD, FODER, TİM WINGS and TİM, the project aimed to strengthen small businesses, develop their institutional capacity and support women’s employment.

It explored how strengthening the presence of women employees in small businesses could contribute to business development and competitiveness, considering women’s participation in working life alongside businesses’ institutional and economic capacity.

The programme began with remarks by SEDEFED President Emine Perdem, BPW Istanbul Board Chair Ceylan Güzekin and Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Uğur Yozgat. Representatives from different institutions and sectors then shared knowledge and experience on strengthening women’s position at work and developing businesses.

Combining the university’s academic expertise with the experience of civil society and business, the project contributed to gender equality by supporting women’s participation in economic life and the workforce.
