International Cooperation and Social Impact in Science Communication

The Research Day—Science and Impact Workshop hosted by Istanbul Nişantaşı University aimed to increase the visibility of academic research and enable it to create social impact.

The workshop began with opening remarks by Rector Prof. Dr. Ayşegül Komsuoğlu Çıtıpıtıoğlu, who emphasized the university’s commitment to academic research and the importance of taking scientific work beyond academia to reach wider society. Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Yeşim Özer Yürür highlighted the need to increase research’s academic and social impact and disseminate scientific publications.

IES Research Managing Director Dr. Woei Fun Wong and Research Support Consultant KC Tang provided comprehensive insights into visibility strategies for reaching wider audiences digitally. Dr. Wong described knowledge sharing as critical to a sustainable academic ecosystem, while KC Tang emphasized that publication alone is insufficient: engagement and dissemination are also essential for success.

IES Research and Istanbul Nişantaşı University signed an official partnership protocol to enhance the global visibility of academic research. The partnership plans to integrate digital platforms and AI-based analytical tools into academic processes.

Following the launch, two workshops explored integrating AI and digital tools into research. Dr. Wong explained how AI-based analysis can help academic work create social impact. KC Tang detailed strategies for making research videos more engaging and disseminating them through digital platforms.

The event aligned with the goals of the Science Communication Offices project announced by Council of Higher Education (YÖK) President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, which aims to disseminate university knowledge widely and strengthen ties between scientists. By creating a platform that shares academic knowledge with society, our event was an important step towards making scientific knowledge more accessible.

Consistent with YÖK’s goal of strengthening interaction among scientists, media, policymakers and society, the event encourages academic discussions and partnerships needed for accurate understanding and dissemination of scientific knowledge. Our university’s activities and partnerships will thus contribute to developing Türkiye’s scientific ecosystem.

Istanbul Nişantaşı University will continue innovative projects and international partnerships to ensure academic research resonates in society and industry as well as the scientific community.
