Effective Copywriting Class Concludes with Strong Interest

Erkan Şimşek shared advertising and creative writing experience at Effective Copywriting, discussing clear communication, target audiences, AI, and career opportunities.
The “Effective Copywriting” event at Nişantaşı University NeoTech Campus concluded with strong student interest. Erkan Şimşek, an experienced professional in copywriting and advertising, shared important insights into the field’s history and future. Emphasising copywriting’s importance since Namık Kemal’s role in drafting the Kanun-i Esasi constitution, he drew on his professional experience to describe opportunities for young people.
Şimşek explained his “eight-word rule,” according to which sentences should not exceed eight words, highlighting its success in delivering effective, understandable messages. Describing advertising as the art of creating a new idea by juxtaposing two unrelated things, he warned students that advertisements based on this approach may not always reach their target audience and can sometimes provoke a negative response.
He argued that AI and language models’ adherence to grammar and sentence structure indicated their inability to replace a good copywriter. Supporting this view with an AI-generated tennis tournament campaign that was highly unsuitable for its target audience, he emphasised that successful content still requires human creativity. Citing campaigns by various Turkish companies, he highlighted copywriters’ critical role.
Finally, Şimşek said young people’s declining interest in copywriting created significant opportunities for those interested in the field, encouraging aspiring writers to pursue it as a career. The event concluded with the presentation of a certificate to Şimşek.
