Istanbul Nişantaşı University Contributes to International Cooperation and Sustainable Development at the 5th Arab Higher Education Congress
Rector Prof. Dr. Ayşegül Komsuoğlu Çıtıpıtıoğlu and Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ece Salihoğlu attended the 5th Arab Higher Education Congress in Tunisia on 10–11 October 2025.
Hosted by the University of Tunis El Manar in cooperation with the Association of Arab Universities (AARU) and the Eurasian Universities Union (EURAS), the congress brought together rectors, academics and higher education representatives from Türkiye and Arab countries for dialogue on international academic cooperation and sustainable development.
The congress examined the future of higher education through four themes: leadership, governance and strategic partnerships; internationalisation and reputation; digital futures and smart universities; and green universities and sustainable development. Sessions on green universities and sustainable development addressed the integration of the SDGs into curricula, environmental justice and energy transition.
A key aim was to strengthen the exchange of knowledge and students in Arab–Turkish higher education and develop sustainable international partnerships through joint doctoral programmes, research centres and dual-degree systems.
In the “Internationalization, Reputation & Global Engagement” panel, the Rector shared the university’s internationalisation vision. She stressed that cooperation should extend beyond protocols and mobility figures, highlighting mutual learning, joint knowledge production, trust, shared ethical values and open-access academic networks.
On the second day, Turkish and Arab universities signed memoranda of understanding and developed cooperation in student exchange, academic research and joint publications. Istanbul Nişantaşı University established project connections in sustainability, digital transformation and artificial intelligence, expanding its international academic cooperation network.
The discussions and connections supported joint knowledge production, international academic dialogue on sustainable development and cooperation on SDG good practices.
Following visits to science and medicine faculties in Tunis, the delegation attended the Study in Turkey 2025 Fair to introduce the university’s academic projects, research capacity and international cooperation opportunities.
