Practical Finance Education as Part of Professional Training
Students from Istanbul Nişantaşı University’s Capital Markets and Finance and Banking departments made a technical visit to Borsa Istanbul on May 21, 2025. Planned as an important part of practical finance education, the visit offered students the opportunity to observe capital market operations and stock exchange dynamics firsthand.
The program began with an introduction in the foyer where gong ceremonies mark companies’ first trading day following an initial public offering. Students learned about the IPO process, trading commencement ceremonies and the importance of these rituals for investor confidence in capital markets.
In the Borsa Istanbul Conference Hall, Senior Specialist Mr. Alper Ayden delivered a comprehensive presentation on Borsa Istanbul’s structure, markets, transaction types and the role of capital markets in Türkiye’s economy. Students reinforced their theoretical knowledge with current examples from professional practice.
Following the presentation, Asst. Prof. Dr. Taşkın Subaşı, a member of our academic staff who previously worked as an exchange specialist at the Istanbul Stock Exchange (İMKB), introduced the board system used in the exchange’s early years. Through historic trading boards, participants learned how manual trading worked and how the transition to today’s computerized system took place.
In the final part of the visit, students toured the Equity Market Trading Hall, where they received technical information about the computerized trading system used today. They then visited the Stock Exchange Museum to examine archival documents, equipment and symbols reflecting the historical development of capital markets in Türkiye.
This comprehensive technical visit helped students combine theoretical knowledge with field experience and develop a holistic understanding of capital markets.
