Double TÜBİTAK Success for Faculty of Medicine Member Prof. Dr. Giyasettin Baydaş

Two Alzheimer’s disease studies led by Prof. Dr. Giyasettin Baydaş have received TÜBİTAK 1001 and 1002 support. The projects will investigate apilarnil in an experimental Alzheimer’s model and the cellular protective effects of propolis.
Prof. Dr. Giyasettin Baydaş, a faculty member at Istanbul Nişantaşı University’s Faculty of Medicine, has achieved double success in TÜBİTAK support programs with two separate research projects on Alzheimer’s disease. One project he leads is supported by the TÜBİTAK 1001 Scientific and Technological Research Projects Funding Program, and the other by the TÜBİTAK 1002 Short-Term Support Program.
The project “Investigation of the Therapeutic Effects of Apilarnil in a Transgenic Alzheimer’s Mouse Model,” within the SBAG Research Group under TÜBİTAK 1001, focuses on investigating apilarnil’s therapeutic effects in an experimental model of Alzheimer’s disease. Led by Prof. Dr. Giyasettin Baydaş, its research team includes Fulya Küçükcankurt and Ramın Hashemıhesar from Altınbaş University, Zeynep Tuzcu from Fırat University and Hakan İnci from Bingöl University.
The second study led by Prof. Dr. Baydaş, “Investigation of the Protective Effects of Propolis Against Mitochondrial Bioenergetic Dysfunction in an In Vitro Alzheimer’s Cell Model,” will be carried out under the TÜBİTAK 1002 Short-Term Support Program. This basic research project will examine the protective effects of propolis against mitochondrial bioenergetic dysfunction in an in vitro Alzheimer’s cell model. Neurophysiology forms the study’s main scientific focus, supported by medical biology and molecular biology and genetics within an interdisciplinary approach.
The research team for the 12-month TÜBİTAK 1002 project includes Assoc. Prof. Dr. Can Ali Ağca, Assistant Professor Fulya Küçükcankurt and Gülşen Günel.
We congratulate Prof. Dr. Giyasettin Baydaş and the research teams of both projects on receiving TÜBİTAK support and warmly celebrate the achievements of our academics who turn their scientific expertise into high-quality research projects.
