Historical and Civic Awareness Through Educational Activities for Local Schools
A special event was held with third-grade students at Uğur Erkey Primary School as part of the 2025 program of the social responsibility project “Atatürk and Our Republic from April 23 to November 10,” conducted in Sarıyer. The event was organized within the BAP-supported social responsibility project coordinated by our History Department Head Prof. Dr. Göknur Akçadağ in cooperation with the Sarıyer District Directorate of National Education, which has been running for two years.
The program began with opening remarks by Prof. Dr. Selma Karatepe, Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences. Prof. Dr. Göknur Akçadağ, Asst. Prof. Dr. Hakan Yıldız and Research Assistant Ali Ceylan then held an enjoyable, informative discussion with students. Topics included the significance of the opening of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, the meaning of April 23 National Sovereignty and Children’s Day, and the value Mustafa Kemal Atatürk placed on science and education.
At the end of the program, also attended by Sarıyer District Directorate of National Education officials, students received gifts to commemorate the holiday. Supported by Umur Stationery through sponsorship of notebook, coloured pencil and folder sets, the event helped students develop historical awareness and experience the joy of the holiday.
This meaningful gathering strengthened students’ love for Atatürk and helped foster awareness of the Republic at an early age.
