Training on Ethical and Effective Student Use of Artificial Intelligence Held

Prof. Dr. Ahmet Başal discussed responsible AI use in Ethical and Effective Student Life with AI training, demonstrating language models, prompting, and academic tools through practical examples.
The hybrid “Ethical and Effective Student Use of Artificial Intelligence” training, organised as part of İNÜ-CELT Training to help students understand AI’s importance in academic and professional life, concluded with strong participation. It began with opening remarks by Dr. Ayşe Gürcüoğlu. Main speaker Prof. Dr. Ahmet Başal offered a broad perspective from AI’s history to its current applications.
Prof. Dr. Başal emphasised that integrating AI into corporate systems has brought significant workforce changes. Discussing changing employment dynamics, he noted that students would enter this competitive environment in the future. He highlighted ethical use and warned about harm from using the technology for inappropriate purposes, while explaining that correct use can reduce workloads and help achieve goals quickly.
Language models were another key topic. Explaining their operation, he said they do not actually “understand” sentences but generate responses through statistical calculations of probabilities. Discussing AI’s many advantages, he highlighted the importance of appropriate instructions and explained prompt engineering through practical examples.
Finally, he discussed effective use of AI tools, sharing applications that simplify everyday tasks such as writing, taking notes and preparing presentations. The training increased students’ awareness of informed, ethical AI use and provided detailed guidance on ethical practice.
