Prof. Dr. Cem Oktay Güzeller discussed current assessment approaches at an İNÜ-CELT meeting, covering learning outcomes, Bloom’s Taxonomy, and AI-supported tools.

Important issues concerning Türkiye’s higher education system were discussed at the “Assessment and Evaluation Practices in Higher Education” meeting organised by İNÜ-CELT at İstanbul Nişantaşı University NeoTech Campus. In his presentation, Yıldız Technical University faculty member Prof. Dr. Cem Oktay Güzeller explained that the Turkish Qualifications Framework for Higher Education is based on the European Qualifications Framework. He emphasised that learning outcomes should extend beyond defining a problem to include gains in knowledge, skills and competence.

Highlighting Bloom’s Taxonomy in assessment and evaluation, Prof. Dr. Güzeller stressed that these processes must be structured in alignment with learning outcomes. He also underlined the importance of university assessment and evaluation committees in reviewing examination questions and course materials.

The meeting explored traditional and alternative assessment tools and how technology-supported methods can improve assessment and evaluation. Discussions focused particularly on AI tools and their use in preparing questions and materials. Practical examples generated with various AI tools highlighted the critical importance of assessment methods and informing students about relevant issues.
