Graduation targets for low-income students

Institutional Approach to Supporting Study Completion

Istanbul Nişantaşı University provides scholarship and support mechanisms intended to help students experiencing financial difficulties continue their studies. Its approach addresses difficulties that may arise during education as well as barriers to initial participation.

Financial barriers and support needs are important considerations when assessing the graduation and success rates of low-income students. Existing university practices include needs-based scholarships, scholarship continuity, support requests and opportunities for eligible students to undertake paid work alongside study.

Need Based Financial Aid and Scholarships

The Scholarship Directive provides for needs-based scholarships for students who experience unforeseen payment difficulties and document their circumstances. This mechanism allows financial difficulties arising during study to be considered through need-based financial aid and scholarships.

The Scholarship Commission assesses applications. Its decisions are submitted to the Rectorate and become final following approval by the Chair of the Board of Trustees. Awards depend on assessment and the applicable conditions.

Scholarship Continuity and Planning Educational Expenditure

The University’s Uninterrupted Scholarship practice emphasises maintaining scholarship support during education. Students should consider the scope and continuation requirements of their awards alongside the applicable directive and admission conditions.

The Scholarship Directive links full and partial scholarships for programmes listed in the ÖSYM guide to the normal period of study and excludes summer school from scholarship coverage. Clear conditions are important for students planning their educational expenditure.

Supporting Continued Study through Support Requests

The Support Request Form enables students to communicate economic and social needs arising during their education to the relevant university units. Students can use this channel to report needs relating to financial assistance, scholarships and discounts.

Applications are assessed according to students’ needs and available support opportunities. The mechanism aims to reduce the effects of economic disadvantage on education and support students’ academic progress and completion.

Paid Work Compatible with Study

The Nev Assistant programme offers eligible students opportunities to earn income and gain work experience on campus. Assessment considers the knowledge and skills required for the role alongside economic circumstances and support needs.

The Part-Time Student Employment Directive limits work to 15 hours per week and 60 hours per month. It provides for adjustments around changes to classes, payment arrangements and social insurance procedures. Eligibility conditions apply; the published Directive excludes foreign nationals from this programme.

Academic Adjustment and Psychological Support

The Psychological Support and Guidance Office offers individual counselling on matters including adjustment to university, academic motivation, attention, procrastination and time management. Services are free of charge and confidential.

This service is available to the wider student population and is not restricted to low-income students. It forms part of the University’s broader support infrastructure and enables students to access institutional counselling without a direct service fee.
