Support for students from low-income families

Support for Students Experiencing Financial Difficulties

Istanbul Nişantaşı University aims to help students from low-income families and those experiencing financial difficulties during their studies continue their education. Support mechanisms include needs-based scholarships, requests through which students can communicate economic and social needs, and paid campus work opportunities for eligible students.

Support is delivered following assessment of individual needs and the conditions of the relevant scheme. Explaining how students can apply and the conditions under which support may be provided forms an important part of access to these services.

Need Based Financial Aid and Scholarships

The Scholarship Directive provides for needs-based scholarships for students who experience unforeseen payment difficulties and document their circumstances. Need-based financial aid and scholarships therefore include an application mechanism through which financial hardship can be assessed.

The Scholarship Commission assesses applications; decisions are submitted to the Rectorate and become final following approval by the Chair of the Board of Trustees. The Directive assigns application information and coordination to the General Secretariat. Needs-based scholarships are defined separately from academic achievement scholarships.

Requesting Assistance for Economic and Social Needs

The Support Request Form enables students to communicate economic and social needs to the relevant university units. Students can use this channel to submit requests relating to needs-based financial support, scholarships and discounts.

Applications are assessed according to students’ needs and available support opportunities. The practice aims to reduce the effects of economic disadvantage on education and help students continue their studies.

Campus Work That Takes Financial Need into Account

The Nev Assistant programme enables eligible students to earn income and gain experience through paid work in university units. Assessment considers the knowledge and skills required for the role alongside economic circumstances and support needs. The programme emphasises priority access for students who need financial support.

Working Conditions and Compatibility with Study

The Part-Time Student Employment Directive limits work to 15 hours per week and 60 hours per month. Students may work in appropriate units, including libraries and cultural and sports centres. Payment depends on hours worked, and social insurance procedures are administered through the relevant institutional processes.

The Directive sets student-status, income and other eligibility conditions and excludes foreign nationals from this programme. It provides for work schedules to be adjusted around classes when students report changes to their timetables.

Access to Free Psychological Counselling

The Psychological Support and Guidance Office offers individual counselling on matters including adjustment to university, academic motivation, time management and personal difficulties. Services are free of charge and confidential. Students can request appointments by emailing psikolojikdanismanlik@nisantasi.edu.tr.

This is not a programme exclusively for low-income students; it forms part of the support infrastructure available to the wider student population. Free provision means that access to institutional psychological counselling does not incur a direct service charge.
