“Always Together in a World Enriched by Differences” Social Responsibility Project

A three-month project by Social Work students supported the social participation of people with disabilities. Its final campus event featured an interactive lesson on recognising and expressing emotions.
The final event of a three-month social responsibility project for people with disabilities took place on December 18, 2025. Supervised by Istanbul Nişantaşı University Social Work faculty member Assistant Professor Dilek Özsoy, it was carried out by third-year students Ayça Nur Genç, İlayda Gündüz, Merve Alaoğlu, Rabia Kara, Tuçe Çıtak and Yaprak Yağmur Ortaç.
“Always Together in a World Enriched by Differences” aimed to support social interaction for people with disabilities, strengthen public awareness and develop a culture of living together with differences. Within support and access programs for people with disabilities, it created an inclusive practical setting combining education and social interaction.
Fifteen students diagnosed with intellectual disabilities from Kağıthane Municipality’s Day Service Center for People with Disabilities, together with their accompanying carers and center instructors, were hosted at NeoTech Campus. Their participation in educational and social activities within the university environment was supported.
At the final stage, a 40-minute interactive lesson on “Emotions” was delivered. Basic emotions and ways to recognize and express them were explained in simple, accessible language. The lesson used visual materials and interactive methods tailored to participants’ needs. Participation certificates were presented afterward.
Throughout the event, participating students were observed to be willing to express their emotions and actively engage socially. The process also offered Social Work students valuable opportunities to gain professional experience working with people with disabilities and develop practical skills.
The three-month project concluded as an initiative supporting social participation, strengthening coexistence across differences and demonstrating social work’s inclusive, empowering and human-centered approach through practical action.
